ATS Resume Format for QA & SDET Roles (2026 Structure + Examples)

Format is the single biggest reason QA resumes fail ATS screens. Not experience, not credentials — format. This guide gives you the exact structure to use for 2026 QA and SDET applications, with worked examples for each experience level.

1. Header — Name, phone, email, LinkedIn URL, city (state / country). No photo, no DOB.
2. Summary — 3 lines: years of experience + domains + biggest quantified win.
3. Skills — Grouped by category: Automation, API, CI/CD, Cloud, Languages. Plain comma-separated. No progress bars.
4. Experience — Reverse chronological. Company / role / dates / 3–6 quantified bullets each.
5. Projects — Optional for 5+ YOE, essential for freshers.
6. Education — After Experience for 2+ YOE, before Experience only for freshers.
7. Certifications — ISTQB, AWS, Azure, GCP. Include dates.

Manual QA (3 YOE):
"Manual QA engineer with 3 years testing fintech and e-commerce web apps. Owned exploratory + regression testing across 14 releases; reduced defect leakage from 8% to 1.7% by shifting risk-based tests earlier in the sprint."

Automation QA (5 YOE):
"Automation QA engineer with 5 years building Selenium 4 + Java + TestNG frameworks. Cut regression cycles from 6h to 42m at scale, onboarded 6 engineers in 2 weeks, and stood up the first CI-gated smoke suite at my last two employers."

SDET (8 YOE):
"SDET with 8 years across Playwright, TypeScript, and Kubernetes-hosted CI. Architected a contract-testing platform (Pact + GitHub Actions) that caught 27 breaking schema changes before production; mentored a team of 4 through the Manual → Automation → SDET path."

Formula: action verb → tool / method → object → quantified outcome.

Examples:

• "Automated 400 Playwright end-to-end tests covering 92% of critical flows, reducing regression time from 6h to 42m."
• "Built 180 Postman + Newman contract tests in GitHub Actions, catching 27 schema breaks pre-prod in Q3."
• "Architected a Selenium 4 + Java + TestNG framework using POM + DDT; onboarded 6 engineers in 2 weeks."

• Single column, full-width margins ≥ 0.5in.
• 10–11pt body, 14–16pt name, 12pt section headings.
• Consistent date format: "Jan 2023 – Present".
• No text boxes, side rails, or column breaks.
• Export as PDF from Google Docs or Word.
