ISTQB Foundation Level exam format & scoring

The official CTFL v4.0 exam has 40 multiple-choice questions worth 40 points total (1–3 points per question depending on K-level). You need at least 26/40 (65%) to pass, in 60 minutes — non-native English speakers get an extra 15 minutes. There's no negative marking, so answer every question. Certification is valid for life once earned.

K1 – Remember

How to use this mock test — a 5-step plan

  1. 1. Baseline attempt. Take a full 60-minute mock cold — no pausing, no lookups. Record the score and chapter breakdown as your diagnostic.
  2. 2. Fix the weakest chapter. Whichever chapter scored lowest, read that section of the CTFL v4.0 syllabus end to end and practise the matching chapter-wise sample questions.
  3. 3. Second mock, 3–5 days later. Aim to lift the weak chapter by 2+ correct answers. Move on to the second-weakest chapter.
